A few weeks ago, I heard from Luke Gedeon, who has a very good and very ambitious goal:
To code review every single active plugin in the WordPress.org plugin directory and then, by request, review any other WordPress code that is publicly available!
WordPress plugins are investigated on submission to the plugin repository, but there's certainly room for dodgy code to make its way in. More broadly, I do agree that the uncertain quality of the vast body of WordPress plugins is a problem worth solving.
Luke needs help getting the word out, support from good coders, and help with fundraising. Please have a look at his site and offer help if you can!
