Chuck’s five most prolific blog commenters of 2015

Okay, okay, one more countdown.  But this one is kinda cool, in that it involves you – my beloved blog commenters.

No matter what, whether you're chastising me for my opinion or cheering on one of my photographs in competition, your blog comments are important to me.  It's that dialogue that keeps this blog entertaining and alive.

And considering that WordPress just sent me a stat-metrics overview of 2015, it was kind enough to list my five most prolific and frequent blog commenters of the past 365 days.

Well, that's a bit of a stat-metric, isn't it?

You know you're curious.  You want to know who it is.  You think you've got an idea who posted the most comments on this blog in 2015…

How right are you?

Go get a piece of paper.  Write down the names of the commenters you think have hit this blog the most.

Yes.  No.  Yes, him.  Not her.  Oh wait, yes her.

Mind you, I do greatly appreciate all my blog readers, and I wish there were most comments from all of you.  But I can tell you that the top five commenters from 2015 are the same people who were the top five commenters in 2014.  According to my stat-metrics program, those bloggers are not in the same rankings as they were in 2014… some have moved up, some have dropped.

Okay.  Here we go.

The fifth most prolific commenter to my blog in 2015 was…

Yeah, I'm just as shocked as you are.  The snarkiest commenter on my page, D357 only posted 50 blog comments this year, earning him a respectable fifth place.  It's also a considerable drop from 2014, when he was #2 in terms of most blog comments.

The fourth most prolific commenter to my blog in 2015 was…

One of my most ardent fans, who never misses an episode of Collarworld or a new photo experiment, Pat D made 51 blog comments in 2015 (just nosing out D357 for fourth place).  Last year, she was in third place, just a few posts behind D357.

The third most prolific commenter to my blog in 2015 was…

Yes, the only member of the Top 5 who also has a TU blog of their own, Roger Green posted 65 comments on my blog in 2015.  I should tell you, in my best Casey Kasem voice, that in 2014 Roger posted the most comments on my blog.

So, we now have a new #1 on the countdown.  But before we hear the #1 commenter…

The second most prolific commenter to my blog in 2015 was…

Yes, the man with the "Zombie Blog" countdown had 93 posts on this blog portal.  He was #4 in 2014, and he's been charging up the charts.  Will he be #1 in 2016?  Don't know.

But we do know that the #1 commenter in 2015 was #5 in 2014.

This commenter doubled the number of blog comments, going from 48 to 99 posts in a single year.

And … as Casey would say… we have a new #1 commenter on the Chuck Miller blog.

Drum roll…

The #1 commenter is…

Yep, Roz doubled her blog comments – half the time asking for Kleenex after reading a Collarworld story, other times jumping to my defense after various blog dustups (the "Hot Mugshot Guy" response, for example).

And there you have it.  The five most prolific commenters on the Chuck Miller blog.

And that's not to take away from all my commenters, because I've got a bunch of great people who read and comment on this blog.  Let's see… Bill W, Kriskaten, JT, Bob Burger, Annie, LB, Diff, Ed the Living Legend, Woo Hoo Supreme, and everyone else.  Yeah.  Way good stuff.

So who will be the commenters with the most comments on this blog in 2016?

The year is only one day old.

The comments section is open.

Get to work. 😀

Simple Tips to Protect Your Wordpress Site for Beginners

SIMPLE TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR WORDPRESS SITE FOR BEGINNERS

I'm Wordpress convert.  I made the big switch from my blogspot blog to a self-hosted Wordpress site 4 months ago now based on reading many articles researching the advantages/disadvantages between blogspot and Wordpress during my first two years of blogging.  I finally decided to make the move as I wanted to begin trying to monetize my blog to turn my hobby blogging into possible part-time income.  One of my main concerns though with a Wordpress site was the security issues which kinda freaked me out.  Of course, the security of your site is an issue for any site owner.   If you are thinking of beginning a Wordpress site, or if you are a Wordpress beginner like me be sure to research and think about a security plugin to help you.  I'm glad I did as last week I experienced my first brute force attack.

protect your wordpress site with word fence

It was early Tuesday morning, really early for me, about 5am in the morning and my email notification on my phone started to ding more times in under a minute that I knew something wasn't right.  I use my the alarm on my phone so its on my night stand and usually not a problem.  I checked my email and I was getting notification after notification from my security plugin Wordfence that an IP address had been locked out after trying to sign in using the 'test' as user name.  These IP addresses were literally from every corner of the globe.  I had to shut my phone off because it just wouldn't stop dinging.

I realized this was a brute force attack to access my site through login user name and password. So, What is a Brute Force Attack?  In its simplest form, it is an attack to gain access to your site.  Basically, they try using usernames and passwords over and over again until they are in.  They are hoping that your user name is 'admin' and your password is '123456'.

I sat pretty nervous for the first couple of hours after I woke up wondering if I had been hacked.  I had installed the plugin Wordfence Plugin and hoped that it would work to stall the attack.

Some of the things I had done previous to the attack, and I hope these will help you as well if you are on Wordpress.

  •  When you set up your account change your username right away from the default 'admin' username to something only you would know.  Tips though are not to include variations of the name of your blog.  Make it unique!
  • Also change the password to your site and make it unique as well with a combination of words, small case and larger case, and numbers and symbols.
  • Install a security plugin.  There are many plugins for Wordpress sites. Take the time to research which one would be the best fit for your site.
  • Within your plugin there are some more changes you might want to make as well.  Note I'm currently using Wordfence so the images are based on their plugin.

If using Wordfence go to the sidebar and click on Wordfence and click on Options.

protect your wordpress site with Wordfence

In the basic section make sure to check off Enable Login Security as this will allow you to make individual options in other sections further down the page.

protect your wordpress site with Wordfence

In the Alert section you can customize what kind of alerts you would like and how often.  Just check the boxes you would like or uncheck them.  I originally had '0' set in how many emails to receive per hour which is why at 5am in the morning my phone wouldn't stop dinging with the alerts during the brute force attack.  Now I have set it to 10.  And if you have more than one administrator who might login in to the account you might want to uncheck that box so you don't get an alert every time an administrator logins in.

protect your wordpress site with Wordfence

The next section to make some changes in is the Login Security Options. There are a number of areas that you can individualize such as after how many failures, how many forgotten password attempts, count how many failures over a time period, and amount of time the user is locked out.  Ever since the brute force attack I have made my login failures smaller and I have locked them out for 2 days.  I chose 2 days that way it would give me some time to investigate what was happening.

You can also set immediately locking out of invalid usernames such as 'admin', <yourname> and I have now included 'test' as that was what common during the last attack.  Also important is not revealing valid users in login errors, or preventing discovery of usernames through author scans.  Also prevent someone from registering 'admin' as a username if it doesn't currently exist. (See check boxes below)

Lawless’ by TM Frazier leads book that came out in 2015

While the end of the year might be a good thing for some people, it might be rough for the book readers of the world. There was too long of a list of books that came out this year and not enough days in the year to keep up. When looking back at the books that came out, it's hard to pick just one favorite above the others as it's like trying to pick your favorite kid.

So, don't worry. I did it for you.

There might not be any mysteries that came out this year, mainly because some of the mysteries have been done so many times before it gets repetitive. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins probably had the highest sales amongst the older generation. They were able to get consumed with that world and the mystery. It was very much like Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn was a few years ago. We don't have any of those books on this list.

The list below probably relates to the people probably around the age of thirty and younger. There is a mix of books in there that some may not like and some may not agree with. Opinions are important, especially with book reading. The point is that we all are able to read the books and let them into our lives. The books that mean the most to us are the ones that we can relate to in some way, and that's why I chose these books for the top books of 2015. Below is the list of the top ten books that came out this year.

    10. Evil Never Dies by T.R. Ragan

    Out: 8/4

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24840347-evil-never-dies?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/08/18/review-evil-never-dies-by-tr-ragan-suspenseful-finale-as-lizzy-comes-to-terms-with-her-loss/

In the latest book of the series, Lizzie struggles with the loss of Jared and trying to be the role model. She submits to the darkness in her and finds that it might not be what she thought it would be, but it might be too late for her to turn back. The story touches on the struggle that we all must deal at some point in our lives when we lose loved ones and whether or not we would submit to the darkness within, or be able to rise above it.

    9. Fall With Me by Jennifer Armentrout

    Out: 3/31

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20980781-fall-with-me?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/04/04/book-review-fall-with-me-by-jennifer-armentrout-story-of-not-letting-past-ghosts-control-the-future/

I admit, initially when reading this book, I didn't think it was one of her better books, but after reading it a second time I wonder why I thought that way. I have loved every other book that Armentrout has written and I think that I had such high expectations for this book. When reading in between the lines, I see how beautiful the relationship between Reese and Roxy is and how pride is an ugly thing that can keep love from happening.

    8. Paper Hearts by Claire Contreras

    Out: 9/9

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25284952-paper-hearts?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/09/11/release-day-blitz-paper-hearts-by-claire-contreras/

Like the first book of the series, this story has a beautiful couple that you just want to hate because they are so cute. They were torn apart because of circumstances and once again pride shows its ugly head and keeps them apart. It's not until they get older and wiser that they see that love is more important than one's pride. I love every character that Contreras creates because they are real and can relate to anyone that reads the books. Hard feat to do for an author.

    7. Scorched by Jennifer Armentrout

    Out: 6/16

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18045624-scorched?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/09/20/review-scorched-by-jennifer-armentrout-a-heartbreaking-story-of-overcoming-one-of-lifes-hardest-things/

It's these kinds of books that make me love Armentrout's writing. While she may create characters that are similar and have their own bubbly lingo, she will throw in a deeply flawed character that we get to transform into that beautiful swan. This story touches on something that hit close to me and I couldn't help but understand the story that much more. Alcohol is a problem for millions of people out there (whether it effects them directly or indirectly) and it hurts deeper sometimes than physical pain.

    6. The Shadowhunter Academy series by Cassandra Clare

Out: around the 20th of every month

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=shadowhunter+academy

In the surprise series released by Cassandra Clare, we get to watch one of our favorite characters, Simon, as he tries to insert his life into the Shadowhunters. While he has some of his memories back, he doesn't have the core ones. Like the ones that connect him with Clary and Isabelle. At times, he can be annoying with it (especially the first few novellas) but he finally comes to his senses towards the end. The best part of the series, though, is that we get to see the background stories for all these characters that we heard about and how they effected the Shadowhunter world. Especially for Valentine and how he came to power. A must read for anyone who is a fan of the series.

    5. Nowhere but Here by Katie McGarry

    Out: 5/26

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23492282-nowhere-but-here?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/06/09/book-review-nowhere-but-here-by-katie-mcgarry-story-of-living-life-to-the-fullest-and-to-face-your-fears/

She is not like many of the other authors on this list where she had multiple books that come out each year, but when she does release a book, it's one that you get right away and then obsess over it. This book is the first book of the series and it's a spin-off of sorts from her last series. She talks about the importance of living your own life and not letting your past dictate it for you. Like many of her other books, she is able to bring characters to life that we can relate to in some way and hope that things turn out well for them in the end.

    4. Confess by Colleen Hoover

    Out: 3/10

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22609310-confess?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/04/06/review-confess-by-colleen-hoover-story-of-loss-love-and-how-amazing-fate-can-be/

When reading this book, I was not expecting to like it as much I did. I read the blurb and I was like 'eh this sounds interesting enough to read'. But after reading it, I was obsessed. Especially after finding out that the confessions in the book are all real. Some of them are dark and sinister while others are funny and light. It's those dark ones that make you see how ugly the world can be and how it's something that should be recognized. I liked how Hoover was able to work that kind of theme into her story, without it being the center point for it.

    3. King/Tyrant by T.M. Frazier

    Out: 6/15 and 8/16

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27918024-king-tyrant?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: King - https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/06/16/release-day-blitz-for-king-by-tm-frazier/

    Tyrant - https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/08/18/tyrant-by-tm-frazier-release-day-blitz-and-review/

If you want to a read series and literally curse out the author from start to finish, then start reading this series. It dominates your life and doesn't let go. If you join the Facebook group you will see that you are not the only one who suffers from King-itis. Frazier creates characters that we love but there are so many twists and turns that you never know what to expect. It's the perfect book to read when you want to get worked up and get all crazed over.

    2. Stark International series by J. Kenner

    Out: 4/7, 6/23, 9/1

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/series/118761-stark-international-trilogy

Review: Say my Name - https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/book-review-say-my-name-by-j-kenner-story-of-a-broken-woman-learning-to-trust-again/

    On my Knees - https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/06/23/book-review-on-my-knees-by-j-kenner-a-little-repetitive-but-sets-up-what-should-be-an-explosive-finale/

    Under my Skin- https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/09/01/review-under-my-skin-by-j-kenner-jackson-and-sylvia-deal-with-the-ghosts-of-their-pasts/

It's not very often where the sequel is better than the originally, but in this case, it is. Damien's series is good in its own way, but I found that I liked the relationship between Sylvia and Jackson a whole lot more. They had more layers and I felt that we got to see more of a transformation for the characters throughout the series. Kenner had enough twists and turns that kept you coming back for more and demanding to know what happens next.

    1. Lawless by T.M. Frazier

    Out: 12/8

    Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25756072-lawless?from_search=true&search_version=service

    Review: https://nerdysoul.wordpress.com/2015/12/10/lawless-by-t-m-frazier-book-tour/

There are really no words to describe how amazing this book is. While the King part of the series has its own dark secrets, this story never had gotten me so angry before. I never actively spent time in a discussion group talking about a book because it was THAT good. It made me want to hunt down Frazier and demand answers. It's hard to make a book that creates such a reaction from the fans and the torture is waiting for the next installment to come out. COME ON FE-BEAR-Y!

WordPress Releases New Major Update ‘Clifford’ Following Redesign

In November, Automattic, the company that owns WordPress, announced a comprehensive redesign of its ubiquitous content platform. WordPress 4.4, has now been released, codenamed Clifford in honor of the Jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown. A major improvement is that WordPress users can now create responsive images, without the need for third party plugins. Until now third party plugin or themes were needed, but now the feature is standard.

This year WordPress was estimated to power a huge 25 percent of all websites, confirming its market dominance.

Automattic also revealed it would be open-sourcing the new code which programs the updated WordPresS replacing PHP with JavaScript. WordPress was originally written in a programming language called PHP, popular with developers for making it fast to write new programs. Other changes have seen a simplified user interface, and, as of last week, an official desktop app for all three major operating systems — Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Speaking to VentureBeat, WordPress creator and Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg explained the working philosophy behind these renovations.

"We asked ourselves a big question. What would we build if we were starting from scratch today, knowing all we've learned over the past 13 years of building WordPress?"

    Word Press Creator Matt Mullenweg

As with any new iteration of software, technical challenges and teething issues are inevitable — new possibilities bring new problems. For small personal websites and blogs, integration of the new WordPress should be less problematic. But for those with complex content, such as online stores, multi-media, or public archives that rely on fast loading and smooth functionality when handling high levels of traffic, the change could be troublesome. WordPress has released a plugin called Jetpack, designed to ease any potential transitional glitches, freeing up web hosts from having to support Node.jss..

And there will almost certainly be security issues, as latent bugs and vulnerabilities as yet undiscovered leave doors ajar to hackers. According to digital design agency security expert Declan Schaffe, WordPress users can minimize security threats by choosing an obscure password and specify limited login attempts, but most importantly ensure all mini updates are downloaded. These updates will fix security vulnerabilities as and when they are discovered.

In the past, WordPress sites attracted hackers because users did not update the site software, and to counter this problem WordPress made sure minor updates would be installed automatically. But WordPress 4.4 is a major update, and major updates are still not installed automatically — users have to manually click on the "update" button to install. There are also numerous security plugins that can prevent unauthorized access, catalogue threatening events, and disable access to sensitive parts of a website.

Aside from the technical aspects of this redesign, in terms of functionality, the update has made WordPress faster and more intuitive. Users can now drag-and-drop image uploads, receive real time notifications, manage multiple WordPress sites in one window, and look at enhanced social stats. Aesthetically, the new interface is simple and minimalist, allowing greater clarity.

WordPress is in its 13th year, and over that period of time many new technologies have come to market, changing the way people work and play: smartphones, touchscreens, tablets, JavaScript, Github, and API architectures. The WordPress redesign has been modeled around these hardware and software innovations, built to take full advantage of them.

For over 10 years now, WordPress has remained largely unchanged, but still managed to maintain its popularity and relevance across a decade of huge technological evolution. It is Automattic's intent that through these updates and redesign, WordPress will continue to be the dominant force in content management, and still be powering over a quarter of the internet for another 10 years.

    Five free WordPress backup solutions

If you depend on WordPress as a promotional, service, or communication solution, you understand how important your site is to staying connected to your clients and to your bottom line. Not only must you keep your site up to date—you also must have a disaster recovery solution in place. In other words... backups.

WordPress is incredibly easy to use, and there are plenty of free backup options available. I've scoured the WordPress tools and plugins to find what I believe are the best free backup choices available for WordPress.

Note: This article is also available as an image gallery and a video hosted by TechRepublic columnist Tom Merritt.

    1: WordPress built-in backup

You probably didn't even know that WordPress has its very own built-in backup tool (Figure A). If you go to Tools | Export you can easily select what you want to back up (posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags). Make your selections, click Download Export File, and save the .xml file somewhere safe.

    Figure A

    Figure A

When you need to recover the backup, you simply use the Import tool and import those settings. The only caveat here is that the built-in tool won't save your settings or themes. For that, you'll have to do a bit of extra work. Even so, the single most important bits (your content) will be saved. Do note that you must install the WordPress Importer to import that saved file.

    2: BackWPup Free

BackWPup Free (Figure B) will help you save your entire WordPress installation (including everything in /wp-content/). With this solution, you will push the backup to a remote service (such as Dropbox, S3, or FTP) and even to multiple services in parallel. BackWPup Free allows you to run the backups manually or to schedule backups with WordPress cron or by using a third-party plugin called Easycron.

    Figure B

    Figure B

    Figure B

You can save backups as xml, zip, tar, or BZip2. BackWPup Free also allows you to select what tables to back up from your site database and even include attachments to your backup. If you want more features than the free version offers, there is also a Pro edition that will set you back $75.00 USD.

    3: UpdraftPlus

UpdraftPlus (Figure C) is one of the more popular backup solutions for WordPress. It's incredibly simple to use: Install it, activate it, and click Backup Now. Once it has backed up your site, you can view your backup files and download as needed. You can set Updraft Plus up to back up in intervals of four, eight, or 12 hours or daily, weekly, or monthly.

    Figure C

    Figure C

    Figure C

Once you have backups available, you can select what you want to back up (from Database, Plugins, Themes, Uploads, and Others). You can also purchase a Premium edition of UpdraftPlus that gives the tool additional features (such as a free 1 GB Updraft Vault, migrate/clone websites, and no ads).

    4: Duplicator

Duplicator (Figure D) is a powerful backup solution that lets you back up, migrate, copy, or clone a WordPress site. This is the tool you should be using if you're looking for something that can do a complete backup and restore of an entire site.

    Figure D

    Figure D

    Figure D

However, it's important to note that you do need an above average technical understanding to make this tool work. Duplicator works by creating packages you build by walking through a wizard. Once you've created a package, you can download it as either an installer or an archive. Prior to do this, you should work through the Tools section, where you can view logs, check diagnostics, and use cleanup tools.

    5: CYAN Backup

CYAN Backup (Figure E) is a lesser known but very good backup solution for WordPress. It's a fork of the now-defunct Total Backup. If you're looking for a solid mix of ease-of-use and features, CYAN could be your solution. It lets you back up your entire website and its database into a single zip file.

    Figure E

    Figure E

    Figure E

Although CYAN doesn't enjoy cloud support, it does include FTP, FTPS, and SFTP. So if you have an FTP site available, you can set up CYAN to automatically back up your WordPress installation to that destination. Once you have it set up, click Backup Now! to kick off your first backup. You can also set up a simple schedule for automated backups.

    Other tools?

Whether you use WordPress for personal blogging, company blogging, or selling a product or service, you need to back up your precious data. Any one of these five tools will do the job and won't cost you a penny.

Do you use a backup tool that didn't make this list? Share your recommendations with fellow TechRepublic members.

WP Site Guardian Launched and Poised to be a Better Wordpress Security Plugin

New Wordpress plugin uses anti-intrusion security technology to stop hackers and malicious attacks.

GAINESVILLE, VA, USA, December 22, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Successful Wordpress security experts and developers, Chris Hitman and Michael Thomas, are pleased to announce the launch of new Wordpress plugin, WP Site Guardian. Released on 12 December 2015, this cutting edge anti-intrusion technology auto-detects and blocks exploits, securing Wordpress sites from thousands of security vulnerabilities and hacking exploits.

Offering a better Wordpress security plugin and an alternative approach to other security systems, WP Site Guardian is the only plugin on the market that offers active protection against current and future exploits by looking at visitor behaviour rather than the attack code. WP Site Guardian reduces the risk of hacking by monitoring and blocking based on behaviour. Suspicious activity is detected and the IP is blocked and banned, eliminating the exploit and reducing the risk of the site being hacked.

In the last 12 months over a million websites were hacked o r defaced by exploits. Exploits are used to target vulnerabilities or programming mistakes allowing hackers to break into a site and cause catastrophic damage by injecting malware, defacement and spam. With no skill required, anyone can download and copy an exploit into a website; this includes hackers, disgruntled customers or even a bad competitor. Restoring systems and company reputations after an attack can be a costly and time consuming task.

"The problem is that most Wordpress plugins and themes are not written by security experts and hackers know that," says Chris Hitman, developer and WP security expert. "WP Site Guardian is a new generation security plugin that monitors the way visitors use your site and detects & blocks exploit execution attempts."

Recent Wordpress tests carried out by Chris Hitman and Michael Thomas identified that none of the current top plug-ins or solutions offered any real protection against exploits, leaving sites wide open to h ackers. WP Site Guardian can provide users with peace of mind that their Wordpress site is securely protected in the right way. With protection against 92% of attacks and limited time launch offers starting at $27, now is the time to upgrade Wordpress security plugin systems.

For further information on WP Site Guardian and to see a demonstration of a live Wordpress site hack with top security plugins running, visit http://www.masterypr.com/wpsiteguardian

    About WP Site Guardian:

5 WordPress plugins you should using on your blog

Which five of all those WordPress plugins should you be using? WordPress is one of the – arguably the – best platform for bloggers. It's SEO-friendly, comes with professional and helpful support and, crucially, you have total control over your blog at all times. However, its functionality leaves room for improvement, and there are thousands of plugins available, literally – some 40,000+ at last count – that you can install to give your blog a leg-up.

Hosting providers will often provide you with the basic start-up tools you need to get going – when you buy UK2 Domain Names for instance, you receive a free one-page website you can use straight-off or develop further, and a free email address with up to 200MB storage. But for your blog to really work for you, you need to look at installing some plugins. Here are some of the most indispensable for bloggers…

    Wordpress (PD)

    Jetpack

The Jetpack plugin is packed with useful features that will help your blog make a big impact. Just to reel off a few, it lets you share new posts automatically over your chosen social media platforms (and makes it easy for visitors to share it themselves), saving you time; at the end of every post it shows links to related content, helping visitors find their way to the topics that interest them and thereby increasing engagement; it has its own proofreading system which comes in very handy if your spelling or grammar lets you down from time to time, and it lets you easily embed content from sites such as Slideshare and YouTube without the need for additional or complex coding.

And that's just the start of it. Jetpack has positive implications for your traffic growth, your security, your SEO, and your site's appearance. Best of all? It costs you nothing. Nada. Jetpack is free of charge, and installing it is a breeze. If you're serious about your business blog, Jetpack is vital.

    Broken Link Checker

Manually going through every post you've published on a regular basis to check for broken links or images that don't show up is a hugely time-consuming task. Broken Link Checker automatically monitors your site's content to spot problems in posts, comments and pages. When it identifies an issue, you can update it from the plugin page rather than having to visit each individual post. The plugin can be a bit of a drain on bandwidth, so it may make sense to run it only weekly rather than full-time, but it's a great way to keep your site up-to-date and save you a lot of effort.

    READ  Car Technology For 2016

    Vaultpress

One of the worst things that can happen to any business blog is for the content to be lost, either by user error or other catastrophes such as hacking. Regularly and securely backing data up off-site takes a load off your mind, and even if your hosting provider already offers back-ups, it makes sense just to have that extra layer of security. Especially when, like Vaultpress, it's so inexpensive. And if something should happen, you know that your blog can be fully-restored with just a couple of mouse clicks. If you're adding new content to your blog on a daily basis, that peace of mind is worth paying for.

    Frizzly

The principal aim of any business blog is to get that content shared as widely as possible by as many people as possible. Frizzly, a free social sharing plugin, makes that a lot easier. Essentially, whenever someone hovers their cursor over an image on your blog, Frizzly puts a share button there for Pinterest, Twitter or Facebook, reminding them to click. The blogger gets to choose which images have the buttons and which don't, and where the pin description comes from. This is obviously a really useful plugin if your blog is image-heavy.

    All-In-One SEO

Another major time-saver, and one that should work wonders for your search rankings, All-In-One is a WordPress plugin that automatically optimises your titles, submits your Sitemap to Google and Bing, generates Meta tags and carries out many other essential tasks, straight out of the box, so it's particularly good for beginners. It also allows more advanced users to tweak every function to their liking.
